A Remuera schoolgirl has become the first New Zealander to win the Miss Teen World title.

Aleisha Robertson, 16, was awarded the Miss Teen 2013 title in Texas yesterday, beating out 19 other contestants from across the globe.

She also won awards for having the best evening gown and being the most photogenic.

Robertson, a Year 12 student at Diocesan School for Girls, won the Miss Teen New Zealand beauty pageant in April.

She entered the event the previous year but failed to place.
