Brave for wearing a crop top?

Mindy Kaling went on the Jimmy Kimmel show this week and killed it with her reactions to commentators saying that she was "brave" for "not subscribing to the ideals of beauty".

Which is 100% insulting, especially when as Kaling, and basically every woman ever would agree with, she does subscribe! She tries really hard to look as good as she does (check her out rocking a deep red lip like a pro).

The comments came after Kaling gave an interview to US Vogue in which she said that she didn't want to be skinny. A comment that everybody on the internet latched onto, making her the role model for "letting yourself go".

"The way they talk about it, it's like she's a pioneer because she's glued to her sofa," Kaling told Kimmel. "By the way, I run and work out, it takes a lot of effort to be a normal slash chubby woman."

Kaling isn't buying the "brave" for wearing a crop top as a non size-zero thing either, "aren't surgeons brave?" she asked.

Maybe it's time to cut back on the fashion/body hyperbole, especially when it's totally just a backhanded compliment. And yes, everybody should wear a crop top.

They're surprisingly flattering.
