The good oil on haircare
We're all well versed in the benefits of hydrating serums and oils for the hair, but now these precious oils are popping up in our favourite shampoos and conditioners too.
"Shampoo and conditioner is the first port of call for looking after your hair. Choosing products with added oils is a quick and easy way to get extra moisture into your hair" says Bex Brent, L'Oreal ambassador and owner of Willis York salon.
Designed as the perfect time saver, shampoos with added oils will give you added moisture on days you don't have time to apply oil itself; and they can also be used in conjunction with your favourite oils as part of a regular hair care routine.
"Oils are particularly amazing for those with thick or dry hair, they add nourishment and protection to the hair, which is especially important in the lead-up to summer," Brent says.
THE BENEFITS OF WASHING WITH OIL
It moisturises our locks: Moroccan women have known about the beauty benifits of natural plant oils for centuries. The deeply nourishing oils of coconut, argan and jojoba are easily absorbed deep into the hair cuticle, making them ideal moisturisers for dry locks.
It makes the hair shiny: Not only does it hydrate the hair, but when combined with conditioner olive, argan and coconut oils oils smooth off the cuticle and make the hair gorgeous and shiny.
It cares for our scalp: In all our attempts to have healthy shiny hair, we often neglect our scalp. Hair products with added oils will work to moisturise and soothe dry scalps, and promote the healthy turnover of new skin.
It restores damaged hair: Argan oil is packed full of precious vitamin E - useful for repairing damage to the hair caused by environmental factors, over-styling, dyeing and heated tools.
It strengthens the hair: Argan and jojoba oils are high in Omega 3 and 9 - a direct source of essential fatty acids, which strengthen the protein bonding structures in the hair, making it strong and free from split ends.
