Red runny nose, puffy watery eyes, dry chapped lips. Having a cold isn't nice; you not only feel awful but you don't look too pretty either.

Shove a tissue up your nostrils to stop the dripping and read this - we have some sweet makeup tricks to make that snuffling cold look like it never existed.

Wake up, brighten up and freshen up those eyes. First drop Clear Eyes ($14.99) into your peepers to give them a good cleanse and to tone down any redness.

Make sleepy eyes look bigger by running a white eyeliner along the inside rim (the waterline) of your eyes. This is a trick the Harajuku girls use to make their eyes look big and doll-like. Try M.A.C Eye Kohl in Fascinating ($36).

Watery eyes can make your mascara run in nasty streaks. When colds strike, use a waterproof mascara. Try Estee Lauder Sumptuous Waterproof Mascara ($57).

Apply a good concealer to get rid of dark circles under the eyes. Don't forget to dab some concealer into the inner corners as well since dark shadows often start there. Try Clinique Even Better Concealer ($43).

Red blotchy skin is a sure sign of an unhappy immune system. Use a product that counteracts the redness in your skin. We love Smashbox Halo Colour Correcting Powder ($52). It neutralises redness, evens out skin tone and it also has added anti-ageing benefits. Halo can be worn alone or under makeup.

Pale, sick faces sometimes need a bit of artificial health pumped into them. A sweep of blush will make you look as sprightly as any well person. Try Maybelline New York Fit Me Blush ($19.99).

Dry cracked lips are painful and ugly things. Rid your lips of flaky skin by trying this old-school trick - brush your lips with an old toothbrush smeared in Vaseline. This will buff off any loose skin and leave your lips smooth and soft. Heal cracked or damaged lips with this super lip saver we discovered - Dr Hauschka Labimint Aute Lip Care ($22). It's also great for healing cold sores.
