Winter's hottest new nail colours
OPI’s new Couture de Minnie offers four limited edition shades ( $24.90 each) plus a Liquid Sand that you can layer over the top for texture. You’ll have as much fun reading the names of the shades (‘Mousthave’) as you will wearing them. On counter from June.
The new shades in Estee Lauder's Pure Color Nail Lacquer collection were inspired by the colours of Paris. We love the limited edition Lilac Leather, $32.
Orly’s Flash Glam FX ($24.99) offers chunky textured shimmer - one of winter’s hottest nail trends. Layer one of the six shades over black for a particularly intense effect.
Just launched in New Zealand, L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Le Vernis’ limited edition collection offers five chic, greyed-down shades you can wear in deliberate contrast to richer winter 2013 garment colours. We like this ‘Soft Chinchilla’ ($9.99).
Struggle to manage a French mani at home? Sally Hansen Salon Effects French manicure with black tips ($19.99) will sort you out - these stickers allow you to create nail art at home. The black tips are fresh and you can use white underneath for a so-hot-right-now monochrome.

Makeup & Skincare
Remember the days when nail colour was either clear, pink or red? Long acrylic talons aside, a French polish was the only way to make your manicure stand out.
Thankfully, you can now find just about any shade you could possibly desire. Choosing the right colour has become so important in the style stakes that fashion designers have nail looks customised for their international runway shows.
Looking ahead to next summer, if the runway nails at the recent Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia are anything to go by, there will be a strong focus on naturals and nudes, and a swing away from really bright. bold nails. For 'pop', look to metallic where you would have used bright colour. Nail art will still be strong, but simpler - a couple of colours only, with geometric influences.
In the meantime, here are our picks of the hottest nail colours for right now.
