Are you feeling a fuchsia vibe this year? You should be if Pantone's annual forecast is anything to go by.

The company, known for its standardised colour charts used across all creative industries, has proclaimed Radiant Orchid (aka hue number 18-3224) the official shade of 2014.

This bright pinky-purple was far from a random selection. Pantone polls designers from all industries to see which colours they plan to use in upcoming collections. It then holds a top-secret two-day meeting with its team to narrow down the year's 'it' colour from a cast of more than 2000 to just one.

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, describes the Radiant Orchid as "an enchanting
harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones."

It's said to symbolise "expanded creativity and originality".

You might just need a dose of that when it comes to Radiant Orchid make-up, since some of us might be a little shy about bold purple eye shadow or bright fuchsia lipstick. However the shade is surprisingly flattering on most skin tones, and you can go as bold or as subdued as you wish.

Above are some of our favourite make-up picks from the Radiant Orchid realm.

How much makeup do you wear?

Just the basics: moisturiser, mascara, lippy.

The works: foundation, concealer, highlighter, bronzer - there's no room to list it all.

Nothing - what's the point?
