It's April and the sun hasn't actually gone - but it's price has gone up. It's a more precious commodity. So this pre-holiday Furry Fursday is a salute to the sun we've still got and the fun our pets can have in it.
Meet Kaiser, in his empire of sand. Beautiful photo, Daniel.

This is the smiling face of Kizzy. Sadly, the sun went down on Kizzy at the end of February - the grand lady had simply come to the end of her life at 19 years. This photo was taken of her at the ripe age of 15 at Muriwai Beach. RIP Kizzy, and thanks for the photo and story, Jacky.

Jessie and Stella make the most of the water hole. More of Stella later.

Daisy plays with her favourite ball next to the sea.

Flash the Border Collie has featured on Four Legs Good before as a youngster. Here's the much more grown-up Flash at the beach

Showing a bit less tongue is reader Tania's splendid Rottweiler. I don't have a name for the dog but I hope Tania will let us know.

Time for some cat action. Or inaction. Lights are out for 12-year-old Jimmy, who found a garden bed.

Demetri the Tonkinese and Tifa the SPCA tortie are actually good friends. But every time the camera comes out, they pretend that things are cooler between them.

Guess what Inle and Kin Kin have just seen. Clue: it has four legs and barks.

The sun was cruel to this cat, causing skin cancer in the ears - a hazard with white cats. But her owner, Emma, says the removal of the ears four years ago hasn't changed her cat's spirit.

Rabbit the black and white cat stops to smell the garden. On the right is Fluffy Bum, at least the third cat named Fluffy Bum that I know of. I wonder how many of us have a Fluffy Bum in our lives.

A caged canary out in the sun has won the attention of Vicki Verka. The gently smiling dog on the right is Mako.

This svelte Vizsla, named Jemima, has grown a lot since she last appeared on the blog. I seem to be seeing a lot of Vizslas out on walks - the breed is growing in popularity.

At last, a chance to use this photo of the beautiful Labrador, Alley. She developed a brain tumour and died last year at the age of 12. "Alley was a big part of our family, and everyone who met her adored her," says reader Chantelle. "She was so kind and tolerant of children that she put up with my younger sister and brother doing her up in a life jacket in case she fell into the pool at home!" A belated RIP, Alley.

A sneaky paparazzi shot of the camera-shy Presley. Good work, Nat.

Tigger's idea on a bright day was to get lost in a game with an Angry Birds toy. Lacking patience and the light touch that the game needs, Tigger got slightly fed up.

Another senior in the sun is Tom, just turned 13 but going on 3.

Here's a closer view of Stella, who was in the swimming hole picture above. She's at play with Jessie's ball.

Attentive blog readers will recognise Digby, the wayward-eyed Griffon. He's having a good time at what looks like Lyall Bay beach - the perfect place for dogs to meet others of their species.

Finally, meet Summer. She's a a 16-month-old girl adopted from the SPCA after being found tossed out with the rubbish. Now that things are a whole lot better with her adoptive mum and dad, Summer clearly has an appetite for life. And doesn't Summer go by so quickly?

Thanks to all for posting your photos. Please email me your own photos, or go to the Four Legs Good Facebook page and use the Upload Photo button. While you're there, browse through the 2000 photos that readers have posted by clicking the Photos link.

Another gorgeous collection, but the thing that made me stop and grin - Fluffy Bum!! I have one too and have never met another - and whilst people love to chuckle about it not a lot of them know Badjelly the Witch so don't understand his naming - but if they know the book they know the fluffy black cat with a big tail from such a beloved childhood story. Go figure my Fluffy Bum (called Boom for short) got hit by a car and had to lose that tail... Whoever the mum/dad is to that Fluffy Bum, good name and beautiful kitty, and I shall let mine know his name can't be embarrassing (not that he's ever cared) if someone else had it.
Love Tom too (the idea of age only being a number is the same for my doggy) and Jemima is beautiful too (Vizslas aren't my top dog breed but they're high up there that's for sure).
Yay for an early Furry "Friday" - that was a nice start to the end of the week.
Is Presley a Rhodesian Ridgeback? He is gorgeous! Think this has to be the best collection yet. =)
You're right about Vizslas, there were 4 at the park the other day! Two usuals, and two extra who were staying with one of the other owners. Seems Vizsla owners are all quite close. Another great way to meet people!
Fabulous selection of doggies & moggies :) No obvious favourite - love Presley, Kaiser, Jimmy, Tigger, Vizalas, etc, etc...... Well done Nick. Happy Easter everyone. Be safe if you're travelling or having fun around water :)
Yes, Digby is a regular at Lyall Bay and thinks he owns it ;)
Thank you for the early Furry-day :) Always makes me smile!
Looks to me like Demetri and Tifa are doing some modernist dance piece for us to enjoy. I just want to give Inle and Kin Kin big hugs - they look so soft and silky. But my favourite for the day has to be Stella who I am sure would tell me she can do no wrong.
Awwww 2nd time my darling shy FB (FluffyBum) has made it! Yes Bad Jelly the Witch. Neighbour shortened it FB. As all my animals have been strays, she will be the last. So I will have no ties. She is around 20,with 4 health issues, many vet visits and a lot of money last couple a years - although surviving on a lot of love. She wouldn't come inside for 13 years. Then when not so busy I trained her patiently getting used to vaccuums, etc etc. Still scared of people tho. She in her retirement indoors place now, ruling. Initials are changed to suit. Fussy B)(&&^, Fish Breath, the Vets Faulty Bowels etc. So sadly the time is coming for such a gentle lovely puss : <<
Yay this means its almost the weekend! Thanks for this Furry Fursday Nick. This sudden dark eveningness and icky weather means poor Tequila is stuck inside all day and night, and no nice long sunshiney walks. Even if she does struggle dragging her 14 year old bones along the river she still wags her tail and makes the most of her walks, and anyone would think she's a sad neglected old girl at the moment without these walks.....she must suffice with cuddles on the couch.

Very cute thanks Nick! Isn't Summer's tongue amazing?! But i think my favourite has to be Stella with the ball. Awwww :)
