Cats are so fine and dainty with their tippy-toed walk, prim licking of paws and tidy ways of sitting. But whoever instructed cats on manners failed to inform them of two things: how they look from the rear with their tail up (let's say no more about that), and how they look when their mouth is open.
When a cat yawns, time stops. All else is forgotten and every bit of energy goes into that uninhibited gaping until the jaws close again, the eyes blink open, and the business at hand can be returned to. Dainty is not the word for it.
The aptly named Maximus gives everything to his yawn; there is no room for half measures or nicety.
Dumpie says aah.
Well it's not quite a yawn, as Smooch's eyes are open; it's more a play-yawn, but still a heroic gob worth entering in this collection.
Ginger Wayne is sleepy. Meanwhile, Trouble can feel a yawn coming - it just hasn't arrived yet.

Finally, my pick as cat mouth of the day is that of Nefertari, who's either just taken over the world or hit a very high note.

I love cat yawns (unless you happen to be 2 inches or less from them when it happens), they are just so dedicated to that instant. Looks like Nefertari has found a suitable sleeping spot on top of a companion and is just on the final stages of settling before the big flop down to sleep. It's fun when they get the timing of yawn and flop with a twist right (to get one ear tucked under and a nice stretch on the other side of the neck, usually combined with a paw curled up to cover the nose or eyes). At least Dionysus didn't lie on the book, that's what Possum normally does - means she gets full attention and generally a nice ear rub as I haven't the heart to move her or disturb her by pulling the book out.
Love Nefertari! I used to live next door to two Abyssinians, with my first Birman, Baja. And this pose is exactly what Pinda would do to Baja - hilarious! Meanwhile Rosie (Pinda's sister) would be out catching rats and mice. Happy Furry Friday everyone!
Another great Furry Friday. Gorgeous, all of them. The expressions are priceless. The very colourful and beautiful Kokoshka reminds me of the lead singer, whose name escapes me, from the '70's band KISS, black eyes with a very long tongue.

Nefertari looks like she is about to sink her fangs vampire-like into the furry splodge she is trying to embrace. And meantime, the furry splodge looks like it really doesn't give a damn - about anything at all!
