What they say about dogs

This week I've collected some of my favourite insights and sayings about dogs. Do the quotes come close to describing the connection between dog and human? That's a tall order, so if the words don't work for you, then just consult the faces.

"Our perfect companions never have fewer than four feet." - Colette

Milly

"Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole." - Roger Caras

Bailey

"There's just something about dogs that makes you feel good. You come home, they're thrilled to see you. They're good for the ego." - Janet Schnellman

Flash, Sonic, Vapor, Jack

"Old dogs, like old shoes, are comfortable. They might be a bit out of shape and a little worn around the edges, but they fit well." - Bonnie Wilcox

Bertie

"No matter how little money and how few possessions you own, having a dog makes you rich." - Louis Sabin

Babs

Pepper

"Anybody who doesn't know what soap tastes like never washed a dog." - Franklin P. Jones

Sooty

"There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face." - Ben Williams

Winston

"Over the years I've come to appreciate how animals enter our lives prepared to teach and far from being burdened by an inability to speak they have many different ways to communicate. It is up to us to listen more than hear, to look into more than past." - Nick Trout

Jessie

"Dogs are the leaders of the planet. If you see two life forms, one of them's making a poop, the other one's carrying it for him, who would you assume is in charge?" - Jerry Seinfeld

Milo

"Dogs act exactly the way we would act if we had no shame." - Cynthia Heimel

Benji

"Scratch a dog and you'll find a permanent job." - Franklin P. Jones

Alfie

"Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day. It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of them." - John Grogan, Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog

Shadow

Lexi

"The biggest dog has been a pup." - Joaquin Miller

James 1

James 2

"No one appreciates the very special genius of your conversation as much as the dog does." - Christopher Morley

Owen and Biko

"It is fatal to let any dog know that he is funny, for he immediately loses his head and starts hamming it up." - P.G. Wodehouse

Lola

"It sometimes takes days, even weeks, before a dog's nerves tire. In the case of terriers it can run into months." - E.B. White

Nelson

"Did you ever walk into a room and forget why you walked in? I think that is how dogs spend their lives."   - Sue Murphy

Issy

"Puppies are nature's remedy for feeling unloved, plus numerous other ailments of life." - Richard Allan Palm

Lucifer

"Happiness is a warm puppy." - Charles Schulz

Romi

"The dog was created specially for children. He is the god of frolic." - Henry Ward

Great collection today, thanks Nick (and fur-baby owners) no chance of picking a favorite, and I loved the quotes, all so true.

I love coming home at night, I feel like the most important person in the world when my 2 dogs quiver with the excitement of seeing me. The hugs are pretty special too... (my girl has a way of snuggling in, and then heaving a large contented sigh as she gets fully cosied up) - warms the heart every time.

Wow! This would have to be up there with many of the best Furry Fridays.

Beautiful photo subjects to support some wonderfully relevant quotations relating to our dear dog friends.

Thanks so much Nick, contributors and pets of course. An enjoyable collection indeed.

So many gorgeous canines! But my favourite has got to be the wet golden retriever with the stick at the beach. That expression on his face is just pure unadulterated doggie bliss...

I was feeling so down after a bad conversation at work this morning. I saw this article on stuff and thought it might pick me up. Now I am grinning ear to ear and thinking about my doggies waiting for me at home. :D

Wonderful! I grew up on a farm and our dog had puppies every year, which my father sold when they were about 3-4 months old. It was always sad to see them go but I still laugh out loud 40 years on when I recall the fun we had playing with all those puppies. Puppies and children are made for each other.

My boys (two black Labradors) are by far my very best mates ... so loyal, fun ... the list goes on, but I can tell you that my life would be empty if it wasn't for them :-)
