As long as it doesn't hold sentimental value, isn't from a close friend or family member, oh, and "it also depends on the gift". There are a lot of rules, but the consensus? It's OK to re-gift.

We hit the shops to find out what people thought about the practise of passing on those pressies that inevitably get left in the closet after every Christmas.

It would seem many thought it OK, although rules applied. Whereas those who disagreed with the idea thought it was unacceptable in any situation.
