Sherri Tippie is our surprise hero of the day. This redhead mama from Denver, Colorado spends her leisure time trapping beavers. Her 9-5 is helping people get their hair did.
'She traps poor, squeaking beavers ... in a mean way?!' you ask. 'She's not a hero ... she's a red eyebrowed devil.'
No, no, don't worry, she traps them in order to take them away from human inhabited areas and put them back into rivers where they won't be messed with.
She also does this all with a great sense of humour and a fantastic red 'fro.
"I am a hairdresser honey. I like HBO, I want a toilet that flushes, okay," Tippie says, explaining that she ain't no normal beaver trapper. "I do not camp out baby... But for some reason when there's wildlife involved, especially beavers, I'm kind of fearless."
Fearless, beaver fearless.
Tippie taught herself how to catch a beav' 28 years ago in order to stop them from being killed on golf courses in her area.
She's dubbed, in a very serious tone by the PBS newscaster, as the 'top live trapper of beavers in North America'.
She goes on to explain why she's so passionate about it: "Beavers are a keystone species to an aquatic eco-system ... if you pull that one stone out it all collapses in on itself."
"We've moved into a place that they should be and we don't want them there. So if we're going to mess around with them we need to treat them as well as possible and put them in a place where they can live out their lives."
Another of our favourite quotes from Tippie? Rivers are "supposed to be curvy like me." Testify!
Some further observations:
1) Beaver lady was smoking hot 28 years ago.
2) Beavers look a lot like capybaras, and so ergo look a lot like Rafael Nadal.
4) Please note the t-shirt she's wearing while cutting hair. We can't read it all. But it mentions 'one dam project after another' and has a picture of a beaver and a dam. She's funny, she's brave, she's kind AND she's pun-tastic. Love her.
