They're probably unlike any five-week-old twins you've ever seen.

Only 15 centimetres tall, the furry duo have a hunger for bananas and get carried around on their mum's back most of the day.

The pair are the newest addition to the ringtail lemur enclosure at Hamilton Zoo, the first ringtails born at the zoo since 2002.

The last arrival was their mum Rachel who, at eight years of age, has teamed up with the zoo's only male ringtail, elder statesman Bruce, to create the lovable duo.

Arguably Hamilton's lemur equivalent to Hugh Hefner, Bruce lives with seven females, a handful for a bloke of any species.

Student keeper Louise van de Sande has been keeping an eye on the twins since their birth, and said it's amazing the twins are surviving, and thriving.

''Usually only one survives in ringtail twins,'' she said. ''We're fortunate they're so healthy and strong.''

Ringtail lemurs are classed as endangered animals and originate from MadagascarLemurs have gained in popularity since the release of Disney animated film Madagascar, which saw a number of the primates dancing and singing 1994 pop hit I Like to Move It. ''All of the face-to-face visits we have, without fail, someone will start singing the 'I like to move it, move it' song from the movie,'' Ms van de Sande said.

Zoo staff are yet to christen the tiny duo with names, a process which could be decided by public suggestions, Ms van de Sande said.
