Miley the husky was left on a trash heap by her former owners, and in the months she'd lived there she had developed countless wounds and ailments. Happily, this moving video shows her recovery.
The Hope For Paws team were informed of the poor pup by a local resident and rescued the gorgeous girl, who didn't even have the energy to run away as they approached.
Taken to the vet, she was treated for mange, bacterial infection, parasites and malnutrition.
"She was in so much pain," her rescuer Eldad Hagar told The Huffington Post.
Miley began to slowly improve, but the exhausted dog only truly perked up a few weeks after her rescue when she was introduced to Frankie, a chihuahua who'd been rescued from a drainpipe and was very shook up.
Beautifully, Miley took tiny Frank under her wing and the two are now inseparable.
While Miley and Frankie were found in the US, there are many organisations in New Zealand that work tirelessly to help dogs in similar situations. The SPCA; K9 Rescue & Homing; Chained Dog Awareness NZ; The Humane Society NZ and more.
Maybe a rescue dog would make the perfect Christmas gift for the family? Just remember to really think about it and discuss it, as dogs are forever friends.
