Best & worst: Cannes day two
THE CONFLICTING: At a glance, it seemed as though Blake had pulled yet another insanely glam and virtually faultless look out of the bag, until I had a closer look that is. While Chanel's latest silhouette - yes, I'm talking about that extreme waist-cinch meets hula-hoop shape - is all the rage with Hollywood starlets right now, it's the strange rib-cage ruffle under the boobs that I'm confused about here. Oh, and the bizarrely tiny pockets. The whole get-up is very 'bath-time fun Barbie' - not exactly what you envisage when it comes to couture.
THE MEH: There's no doubt Cannes is the perfect place to take a risk, but I'm not completely sold on Julianne Moore in this edgy Louis Vuitton gown. First things first, the panelled skirt is actually super cool and her hair and makeup has never looked better, but the ill-fitting bodice is just throwing everything off kilter. When did irridescent leather become a thing? And what's with the weird demi-seams on her nipples?
THE MIXED: Following her summery look yesterday, Zoe Saldana opted for a moody Jason Wu number for her second Cannes appearance. While a touch of velvet is normally enough to put me off even the most stylish dress, the green tones suit her complexion remarkably well - and let's face it, without them it's really just a boring black dress after all. Weird shawl neckline aside, she really is winning from the shoulders up. Let's all just take a moment to appreciate that stunning updo.
ONE OF THE BEST: Cate Blanchett is the picture of absolute elegance in this ornate Valentino gown. Everything from the nipped in waist, to the intricately detailed cap sleeves and neckline is right on song. I also love her hair like this - the messy quiff really suits her. Just keep doing what you're doing Cate, we love your work.
THE GLAM: From afar, this figure-hugging gold number is rather breathtaking and I can't deny the fact that perpetual red carpet walker, Hofit Galan looks good in it. It's just a pity that where the look cries out for a little subtelty - there really isn't any. Do away with the deep v neckline, ditch the earrings and replace the chunky gold platforms with something daintier and it'd be a winner.
THE BAD: I couldn't believe my luck when I came across this close up of Elena Lenina. Yet again, the Russian reality star made the red carpet her own by rocking a wacky updo that's nothing short of hilarious. Then, minutes later, the full body image made it's way onto my screen and voila! - day equals made. Credit where credit's due - the woman really knows a thing or two about grabbing our attention.
THE GOOD: I'm a sucker for an appropriately styled long-sleeved mini, and who better to show us how it's done than a bonafide supermodel? Ethiopian born Liya Kebede looks gorgeous in this gladiator-inspired Roberto Cavalli number. Red lips, minimal accessories and one hell of a blow-wave are the perfect finishing touches.
THE BAD: What is it with these ugly bat-wing lace creations? Yesterday it was Karlie Kloss, and today French actress Sonia Rolland fell (flew?) into the same trap, and it isn't getting any better. Yes, the vibrant pinky-red is undoubtedly her colour and the matching lippy is great, but the half-cape doily hanging off her arms is beyond distracting.
THE GREAT: Cannes may be known for OTT decadence and attention-grabbing slits, but French actress Aissa Maiga chose to swim against the stream, opting for this wonderfully clean and simple white gown. The crossover straps and filagree bangle provide just enough detail - total style win.
THE DISAPPOINTING: In a sea of boring black suits, Russel Crowe's look caught my eye - but for all the wrong reasons. Yes, it's a daytime event and more casual attire is encouraged, but the 50-year-old actor just looks dishevelled. Messy hair, bad glasses and that long jacket - it's just unnecessary. Take a cue from the stylish French men around you and pull your socks up Mr Crowe.
THE GOOD: While a shimmery bandeau dress could easily come off tacky, Lupita Nyong'o works this Calvin Klein number like a pro. The teeny tiny underboob slit modernises the otherwise simple look, the midi length skirt is bang on trend and her choice of footwear couldn't be better. Mr Costa sure looks stoked she turned up at his party - maybe she's finally given in and revealed her arm workout to him - lucky, lucky man.
The 67th annual Cannes Film Festival is in full swing. Here are the best and worst fashion looks from the second day of film meets fashion craziness on the French Riviera featuring Blake Lively, Julianne Moore, Zoe Saldana and more.
