Best & worst: Cannes day six
THE GOOD: Rip your eyes away from his impossible dimples and cheekbones for just one second and check out that dapper, brylcreem hair Channing Tatum is sporting: I'm loving it in this red carpet context, and am also a major fan of his neatly tucked away pocket square. Mark Ruffalo just edges Tater suit-cut-wise, but Channing wins the race for his overall styling. And Steve Carell? Well he looks super smart in his Giorgio Armani tux and his face just brings joy to our hearts, and that is always on trend.

THE GOOD: No one can rock a major bouffant like Cheryl Cole, and she is managing to pull off this rise-and-fall hemline Monique Lhuillier gown too thanks to perfect styling and those awesome triple-strap shoes. My only complaint, however, is that the hemline seems to rise just a little too far, making it look a tad awkward. Lucky the celebs never actually sit and watch the movies at premieres, as she certainly is not fitting in a cinema seat in this thing. Also, who is that photographer in the background shouting at?! Do you think Brangelina decided to turn up and that bald bodyguard just got in her shot.

THE BAD: Eva Longoria, being impossibly beautiful, almost pulls this off, almost. But why oh why Vionnet decided to design a gown that is a skivvy, is in the colour of least appealing undies in any wardrobe and has a big gathering of material right by the gut is beyond me. I am coveting her messy braid in a big way, however.

ONE OF THE BEST: Jessica Chastain certainly knows that bold colours are her friend, and she looks lovely in this flowy, Grecian Elie Saab gown. This dress looks like it would be a treat to wear, and that it would actually be kind of comfy, and that is fashionable.

PS: She also dealt with extreme gusts of wind on the red carpet like a pro.

THE MEH: Fun fact: the lovely Jess Weixler - Good Wife fans will recognise her as the bubbly investigator - is the long-time best friend of Jessica Chastain. I wonder if they call each other Chasty and Wexxy? I would like to think so. Here Wexxy is wearing Armani Prive, and while her hair and makeup is gorgeous, I am not sold on this dress. The straps appear a little long on her, leading to a less than flattering torso silhouette. Get Kalinda on it.

THE MIXED: On the one hand I love how unique this feathered Chanel Couture gown is, but on the other hand, I am perplexed by the drop waist cut: every time I try on a drop waist dress I end up looking like a human truck, and while Julianne Moore, obviously does not, I cannot help but think this would be all the more fabulous with a bit of nipping in at the waist.

THE GOOD: Riley Keough (her granddaddy was Elvis) always does something a little different on the red carpet, and despite myself, I am liking this Valentino look on her ... mostly because that metallic jaquard butterfly skirt is the stuff dreams are made of.

DUDE TREND: Both Rob Pattinson and Gael Garcia Bernal rocked black on black on black on the red carpet, and both did so while managing to not look like a Johnny Cash cover act. I prefer Gael by an inch because of the super cute bow tie and the fact that his shirt has slightly less sheen to it. Thoughts, do we like this trend?

ONE OF THE BEST: Sonam Kapoor is 100 per cent ice cold elegance in this modern take on a traditional Indian sari by Anamika Khanna. Describe it: high mesh neck, extreme choker necklace, matchy shoes, nude and pink all over, and it sounds like a disaster, but the 28-year-old Bollywood star makes it work, in a big way. PS: Someone asked yesterday why so many random models and actresses go to Cannes every year even though they are not in the movies - well, they go as brand ambassadors. So, for instance, Kendall Jenner was there for Chopard, and Sonam and Eva are there to spruik LOreal.

Today Jessica Chastain, Sonam Kapoor, Julianne Moore and more stun and underwhelm on the red carpet.
