Actress Mischa Barton doesn't care if she makes fashion mistakes.

The former O.C star would rather experiment with her own look than have a stylist tell her what she should or shouldn't wear.

She said: "I'm sure I should be more conscious of it or conscious at all some days. I've always been a free spirit and a bit of a goofball and really into trying new things and just being expressive and creative though clothing.

"I guess no matter how much people like that or don't like that about you I don't think you should change that. I don't want to end up fully-styled head-to-toe and it's a personal choice not to have stylists but to do it on my own.

"And you know, there are hits and there are misses, but I think that is what fashion should be about for young girls."

The 23-year-old star has been working on her own range of handbags and admits she asked for her mum's opinion when creating her designs.

She told the WalesOnline website: "I'm very picky about handbags and I just wear one to death and then move on to the next one.

"But I make bags for everyone, not just for myself. I just talked with my mum and she's like, 'Throw one in for me, one that I'll wear.' "

Despite expecting her line to be "a hit", Mischa has no plans to expand into other areas of fashion.

She explained: "I don't want to be one of those celebrities who tries to do too much and spreads herself too thin, like some people do. I really want to put a lot into a few projects and make them the best that I can."
