Gok Wan hopes 90s fashion is "gone forever".

The celebrity stylist is confident designers won't turn to the decade - which saw people copying the baggy pants of MC Hammer, platform trainers of the Spice Girls and lank locks of grunge bands - for inspiration as there are better fashion periods to look at.

Speaking at Gatwick Fashion Week on Saturday, Gok told BANG Showbiz: "Well, just the other day I saw an advert for an album and I knew all the songs on it. I started watching some of the videos of the songs, which were from the 90s, and I was thinking, 'I hope it doesn't come in.' I really hope it doesn't, so I'm going to say no. The 90s will never come back, they've gone forever."

Gok added the current trend for all things 80s, including bold colours and huge shoulder pads, will continue for the time being.

He insists the new styles will be different from the 80s revival of the last few season, but thinks the new looks could mean the industry's love affair with the decade is coming to an end.

He explained: "The reason why we've had to keep on rehashing the 80s is because we haven't got it right yet. With the 70s there was a strict routine to go through - a print and then a colour.

"The 80s was a tricky one, because it was a very, very desperate time. It was a very political, a social thing was going on in the 80s and the fashion reflected that. We haven't quite got it right yet. I think this season will probably nail it. I hope so because I'm getting bored of it now."

London Gatwick Fashion Week, held at the airport from August 6-9, gave fashion advice and tips to holidaymakers as well as promoting the benefits of duty free shopping.

90s - skirt over pants! What were we thinking?

Ugh, definitely the 70's. I still have traumatic flashbacks of going to school in my yellow skivvy, brown corduroy pants and brown buckle up shoes with embroidery on the sides.

Agree with Anna, the 80's by far

re: 6 - My sister wore stirrup pants to uni in her first year in 98. Many lols are still remembered by many others to this day.

Growing up in the 80's I loved the fashion but I loathe the rehash of it now. I vowed never to wear Fushia again. I'm scared black corduroy stirrup pants will come back.

The 1910's!

Anna   #4   05:06 pm Aug 11 2009

Nah! Has to be the 80s! OOOH yuk, the big hair with the farrah flicks at the side - Shoulder pads, Knicker bocker pants, large bows and Frills, plastic earrings and beads, legwarmers, Baggy pleated trousers, bubble-gum jeans, white Miami Vice suits, karate shoes, Neon gear etc etc - Need I say more? At least the 70s had cool styles and more flattering cuts! (I was a kid in the 70s and loved my Mum's platform shoes to dress up in)

I agree with Gok. I will cry the day that tearways and cargo pants are back in fashion.
