With winter comes thicker fabrics that keep us warm. Wool for coats and knitwear for layering are great, but how's a girl to dress up posh with the cold nibbling at her toes? Thank goodness for brocade. This heavyweight fabric is the stuff of kings and queens, with its rich and dramatic sheen. Follow the lead of Louis Vuitton, Valentino, Rochas and Miu Miu and make your evening wear brocade this winter.

HOW TO WEAR IT

SIMPLE: Pick one brocade garment and leave the rest of your outfit simple and classic. Try a pair of brocade trousers, a silk bouse and a pair of slingback heels.

OPULENT: Make a nod to old-time royalty with a rich and textured outfit. Pick your brocade piece and mix it with textured wool or tweed, soft velvet or metallics in jewel tones. Finish off with a heavily embellished necklace. Try a brocade dress with a textured coat and statement necklace.
