Bugger the winter cold - the best way to get through the dark days is to start planning your mid-season break.

The resort shows may not be on the catwalks yet, but down in the Southern hemisphere it's what we're starting to think about - resorts, that is.

Ah, the winter escape: Fiji, Samoa, Thailand, Bali, that snippet of time wrapped in the sun's warm rays, splashing in the water, reading by the pool.

Whether it be a weekend or a full month, grab all you can right now and take back your sun-kissed tan as a souvenir.

It may be dark and grim outside, but the escapist in us is already planning what to pack.

FABULOUS FOOTWEAR

Got your pre-holiday pedicure sorted? Now you need something to frame those sweet feet. Topshop's current range of summer sandals is drool-worthy. Which are your favourites?

MAKE ME UP

Just in time for your winter break, M.A.C brings us a seaworthy collection of bold nautical colours and SPF happy products.

And it ain't just blue, white and red either. Think creamy lip colours, sea green eyeshadows, golden nail lacquers and beautiful bronze body shines.

And our favourite bit? The limited edition sailing tote and makeup bag set. Ahoy!

LOVE THY SKIN

If Elle MacPherson loves it, we love it too. Invisible Zinc is the superstar's chosen sunscreen brand, and we're enjoying the many different types available for every sun protection need, from tinted moisturisers (with SPF of course) to hardcore, water-resistant body creams.

Our favourite holiday pick is the Sports Stick with four hours of water resistance and a caribiner to clip onto your beach bag.

EYE LOVE IT

Shades are a must for protecting your peepers, and also a must for poolside perves. Oops - did we just say that? We love the new oversized pebble style from Miu Miu.

IN THE SWIM OF IT

Footwear designer Kathryn Wilson has some news - she is now doing swimwear.

The nautical-inspired designs are a collaboration with swimwear designer Emma Ford and feature chain-link motifs and sweet KW and EF logos.

There are both bikini and one-piece styles available, and they're due in stores in September. Place your pre-orders now.

What do you think of Kate's style?

She's classic and elegant.

It's boring and frumpy.

Who cares?
