Kelly Cutrone is unkind on America's Next Top Model because it pleases the fans.

The PR guru has joined the panel of the reality TV show, which aims to find the next big fashion star. She is known for being outspoken on previous programmes The Hills, The City and Kell On Earth and has kept her persona the same this time around.

"People don't like it when I'm nice," she told New York Post. "You can check the dial of the focus testing. If I'm too nice, people don't like it."

Cutrone's young daughter Ava enjoys visiting her mother on set and has bonded with host Tyra Banks.

The supermodel taught Ava to swim and also gave her some model tips.

"[She showed Ava how to] pick up a pencil like a model. I guess it's cute if you know what context it's coming from," Cutrone said. "If you don't, it might be shocking."

Cutrone joined America's Next Top Model for season 18, following the departure of Andre Leon Talley.

J. Alexander, Jay Manuel and Nigel Barker are also no longer involved with the current season of the show.
