I am unsure how to wear my black skinny jeans in a way which looks classy. I really like wearing them as they show off my legs but I am worried about looking provocative. Are there certain things that it is not a good idea to pair them with? How would you recommend wearing them?

Hi Jo,

What conservative planet are you from? Skinny jeans provocative? The only way I can fathom the Kiwi wardrobe staple looking provocative is if they're worn with very little else.

The classiest trick to wearing skinnies well is to play with proportion. Balance out the tightness down the bottom with some looseness up top. Try a simple slouchy cotton T-shirt, or a loose silk blouse. Team with ballet flats or canvas sneakers for the weekend, or dress the look up with heels and a crisp blazer for a casual Friday at the office. Style your jeans to look preppy cool with a knit jumper and boat shoes, and cuff up your denim for an interesting detail.

Remember that when wearing skinny jeans your bottom doesn't have to be on display; you can treat them as leggings and wear them with a long top or cardigan that scrapes the thighs. If you're glamming up to go out try a bold embellished top that lightly skims over your curves and a statement piece of jewellery or two.
