Wellington Fashion Week looks set to return next year, with organisers insisting lessons have been learnt from this year's inaugural event.

Managing director Cameron Sneddon has confirmed plans to hold a five-day event on the Wellington waterfront in April.

It was reported in August that Sneddon had struggled to recoup costs from the first fashion week, with debts of thousands of dollars still outstanding four months after it wrapped.

Sneddon said he was "not the most amazing finance manager", and that he had learned from "the good and the bad experiences".

"The event blew up bigger than we'd anticipated and we fell short of resources in a few departments."

The appointment of a business director - now the sole other registered director and shareholder, alongside Sneddon - had given Wellington Fashion Week Ltd "a backbone".

"[Now] I can really focus on the creative development side."

Sneddon said designers and sponsors would be confirmed early next year, though avant-garde heavyweight World is locked in to open with a showcase of its autumn-winter collection.

Since expressions of interest were called for this past week, 43 designers, including Trelise Cooper, Kathryn Wilson and Julian Danger, had requested information.

Sneddon expected the proposed location - Odin's Plaza on the Taranaki St wharf - and reduced ticket price to boost attendance from this year. Tickets to group shows had cost $80, which Sneddon admitted was too expensive.

Next year, they will be $55, with tickets to individual shows $35.
