For the day's events, Michelle chose a navy-silk coat by predominantly-menswear focussed designer Thom Browne. The New York-based designer crafted the coat - which is inspired by a man's tie - especially for the FLOTUS, but didn't know she was going to wear it until we all saw it on TV. She accessorised with a belt (which has already sold out) and boots from high street US label J. Crew. Respect.

It's estimated that one wear by the First Lady on inauguration day is worth $16 million in terms of publicity. Here are the designs that cashed in...
