Will Google glasses ever be fashionable?
We've all watched the YouTube vid (with a bit of dread/excitement), and are pretty overwhelmed by almost every aspect of this groundbreaking gadget - every aspect, that is, 'cept its design.
Seriously, not even Diane von Furstenberg can manage to make this $1,500 forehead-mounted-chunk-of-plastic look fashionable. Google Glasses have just about as much style chutzpah as a pair of click-on tinted specs. And anyone who has ever been specs shopping knows how hard it is to find a frame, even a normal one, fit for your face. 'Wired' and 'The New York Times' recently explored this issue, considering the challenge Google faces in making "wearable technology" chic.
To solve this problem, Google is said to be in talks with New York-based start-up, Warby Parker. If you haven't heard of them, Warby Parker are the US purveyors of buy-a-pair, give-a-pair eyewear favoured by people who enjoy slightly oversized hipster styles, but don't feel inclined to drop $300 on a pair.
Though Google Glass - with its inbuilt computer processer and battery - may never appear as seamless as a pair of conventional glasses, Warby Parker may just do enough with the design to have it looking better than a Bluetooth headset.
