Best & worst dressed: July 26
THE GOOD: While I acknowledge that few people other than a Victoria's Secret model could pull this off (skintight, white, high-necked and T-shirt-sleeved is like a size-10-and-up woman's nightmare), Irina Shayk works it. This is an unusually minimalist look for her, and that combined with simple hair and makeup makes the natural beauty of the Russian, who is dating Cristiano Ronaldo, shine through.

THE BAD: Chassy's face to the left: "Remind me to fire my stylist: this Alex Perry dress is two sizes too small and I'm trying to smile through the pain, but I think I'm going to have a bleeding zip-shaped wound when I get out of this ruddy field." And Jess Chastain's thoughts to the right, "White shoes in a field, really people? It's so hard to find good staff these days."

THE BAD-TO-GOOD IN ONE NIGHT: Her again! Most fashion critics go soppy for Cate Blanchett and so this Balenciaga.Edition outfit has been dubbed "art", one of them even said it made her cry with joy. Oh please, let's just all take off our Cate goggles for one second and acknowledge that to the left she looks like an extra in a play about garden plants coming to life (she would be a really fancy flower though, maybe an orchid). But take that penguin cape off, however, and we have a beautiful dress that is best dressed of the week territory. Thoughts?

THE WORST: I've only watched Made In Chelsea twice, but both of those times Cheska Hull seemed like the most annoying person* in it (*read: heavily scripted character). And this stripey abomination? Well, you know how it's currently Dry 'no booze' July? Can we make next month Less Chest August?

THE BAD: US TV personality Carrie Keagen is sporting a leather hooded shrug. Shall we just leave it at that?

THE MEH: I am a major Jennifer Lawrence fan, but can someone get the girl some pencil skirts? Her stylist keeps trying to dress her in Diane Kruger outfits, when she would look so much better in less-fussy but still daring pieces. Lady's got curves, so let her work them. PS: The whole outfit is by Proenza Schouler. PPS: Oh, except for those awful (in this context) shoes, they're Nicholas Kirkwood.

THE BAD: It's not even the less-chest August issue that has me bug-a-boo-ing over Nikita actress Lyndsy Fonseca's outfit, it's the fact that the rest of it looks like it's made from industrial easy-to-wipe-off material and is all loose and floppy and bunchy in the crotch-region (she needed to lend Chastain some material).

THE BEST: Ah, Miranda - only you would manage to make this Wes Gordon dress look amazing with red lippie, leopard print heels and a blue bag. This is making me rethink my go-to airport outfit of no waistband leggings and a hoodie.

THE GOOD: Naya Rivera channels sexy without having to knock us over the head and scream - LOOK, THIS IS SEXY. The length of this Michael Kors gown works perfectly on her, and those silver Monika Chiang pumps are giving me heart palps (in a good way). Oh, and I think plum sorbet may officially be 'her colour'.

THE GOOD: Kate's waters breaking overshadowed other news from the royal files this week - Belgian's King (Albert II) abdicated, leaving his son Philippe the king and his wife Mathilde the new queen consort of Belgium. And for the ceremony, the 40-year-old mum of four young kids chose a totes approps cotton and silk brocade dress by NATAN. I love it, it fits her perfectly, and it seems to be so fab it's sent her bodyguard into couture convulsions.

THE GOOD: An evening gown with a hood that actually looks good - I thought I'd never see the day. Vanessa Hudgens shimmers in this forest green Diane Von Furstenberg gown - in fact, I think she looks better in it than supermodel Karolina Kurkova recently did, which really is a triumph for all the under five foot ladies out there.

THE GOOD: Okay, I love Dexter so much that I'm actually nervous about the series ending this year, and I also have a major girl crush on Yvonne Strahovski, so I may be in a dreamy daze, but I think girlfriend looked fresh and styling yet still like an actual person I could walk past on Willis Street throughout the whole Comic Con week. I particularly love her mixed-pattern Sportsmax gown to the far right. Lovely.

THE GOOD: Peter Sarsgaard looks suspicious, but I'm loving this Alexander McQueen look on Cate Blanchett. It's sleek, statuesque, not too Tilda-Cate-brand-of-crazy and sister can rock a red lip.

This week, Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Lawrence and Miranda Kerr shine, while Jessica Chastain makes a rare bad choice.
