THE BEST: I love this quirky Erdem look on Rose Byrne... oh, and her Jimmy Choo metallic pumps are pretty amazing too. The touches of chiffon work really well here, her eye makeup is perfection and her hair's not too fussy (which keeps the busy could-be-couch-like-if-it-wasn't-so-well-done pattern in check).
THE GOOD: Sienna Miller is summer-personified in Dolce & Gabbana - the 31-year-old basically owns the, 'oh this old thing' not trying too hard genre.
THE GOOD: Toni Collette is fabulous at 40 in this black AllSaints gown - I love her fringe, am obsessed with the Rachel Roy shoes and now think Tones should forever wear one shoulders.
THE GOOD: Gorgeous Parenthood star Mae Whitman (her TV mum Lauren Graham is one of my fantasy big sisters) looks all class in this light red and white printed tea dress. I love the cap sleeves, love the red lip, oh, and she's totally rocking the touches of green in her hair (something that's hard to do).
THE GOOD: If I had my eyes closed and you said Carmen Electra in a backless light blue satin dress, my reaction wouldn't be good, but she looks absolutely stunning here: this is one of the best slick ponies I've seen in a while, too.
THE MEH: These were actually the two least awkward photos taken of Britney Spears and Katy Perry at the Smurfs premiere... their eyes are doing the opposite of smizing. The fact that it looks like there are tumbleweeds fluffing past them aside, I'm v. v. uinimpressed with the fashion on show here. A) Can Britney just branch out from Herve Leger bandage dresses for one second (particularly those that make it look like she's packing a gun holster). B) I think this is the first time I haven't liked a Tadashi Shoji dress (maybe it's because Katy Perry's hair looks like it'd be the texture of rubber).
THE BAD: What the blazes is going on with Tyra Banks here? Look at her eyes: girl's not smizing she's screaming with those peepers - "Help, I'm currently experiencing a rare red-carpet-ready version of locked in syndrome... and Heidi Klum's stylist has kidnapped me, dressed me as Helena Bonham Carter and forced me into public."
THE BAD: The slightly fuggo white dress works in a it's Sharon Stone, she was in Basic Instinct kind of way, but I will never, ever endorse Aileen Wuornos hair.
THE BAD: How can someone so gorgeous get it wrong so often? It looks like Paula Patton is bursting out of this Basil Soda gown (like, as in she's quite literally ripping the seams). I think she really took the name of the film she's promoting to heart: Two Guns.
THE BAD: I have a feeling it's mostly the camera flash that's doing very bad things to Aussie TV presenter Emma Freedman's cleavage here... but you basically never want your breasts to look like the squashed nose of a bank robber with nude stockings over his face. Never.
THE BAD: This isn't the worst of the worst, but Breaking Bad's Anna Gunn usually looks so fab on the red carpet, so seeing her boobs squished together in mesh and her neck covered in some kind of bee-keeper evening-wear contraption is just not good enough. PS: Why is everyone so into extremely tightly jammed together cleavage at the mo'? Ease up a bit ladies!
THE BAD: Speaking of jammed together... I could definitely forgive the thigh split on 2011 Miss USA Alyssa Campanella's Vesper @ Asos dress if it wasn't for the fact that we can actually see the pucker where her boob tape is. Let's be honest, she might as well just not be wearing a top... imagine the poor people who had to converse with her at the event while somehow keeping their eyes above the neck... "Well would you look at the lovely cornices in here..."
