Best & worst dressed: AMAs
THE MEH: Jordin Sparks is so beautiful and lovely but I think she's got a few too many metallic details here - the shoes, the bangles, the leather bodice on the Jovani gown, the ear chain - it's verging on extra in one of the hot-looking countries in Game Of Thrones rather than couture that's inspired by the Khaleesi.

THE STRANGE: I'm confused by the gorge Zendaya Coleman's outfit - it's very ABBA revival, and I'm not sure that's ever a good thing.

THE MEH: This cappuccino meets lace dress Giuliana Rancic is wearing is a bit too Kardashian Kollection Khristmas Kouture.

THE FINE: Katy Perry does look beautiful in this Oscar de la Renta dress, adding a touch of whimsy with a Websters New World clutch-disguised-as-a-book, but I can't help but feel she looks a little bit like she's in costume and ready to perform in some kind of panto-matinee, playing the good witch ready for storytime.

THE MIXED: While her little sis Kylie looks chic and classy, all I can think of is how cold Kendall Jenner would be in this futuristic Tarzan's Jane ensemble.

THE GLAM: I love Naya Rivera's hair like this, although I do stand by the fact that she seems to be morphing into Kim Kardashian. That said, I think she almost pulls off this Michael Kors look,as in as much as extreme keyhole cleavage can look classy.

THE BAD: Someone needs to call Ben Stiller and negotiate a Zoolander 2 because Heidi Klum's Marchesa dress is solid proof that derelique is back.

THE BORING: You know, cheap piñata-looking horse aside, this is actually the prettiest Gaga's ever looked on the carpet - I love that lilac Versace dress with her long flowy locks (weave?). But, back to the poor guys in the not-forgiving lilac leggings who are having to control the beast's legs. They best be getting paid a mint. I feel like once you've arrived encased in a giant egg you've kind of peaked when it comes to dramatic entrances and should ergo just walk the carpet from there on in. Besides, Bianca Jagger's been there done this back in the Studio 54 days, except she had the balls to come in on an actual live horse, not just some shonky sculpture controlled by sweaty dudes in Lycra.

THE ILL-FITTING: You kind of don't want to bag Miley Cyrus when she's dressed conservatively in case she gets the sense she should go back to nipple stickers and mesh, but this Versus Versace suit is a touch ill-fitting. The pants look like cheap summer capris bought from some mail order catalogue and it looks like she's wearing one of Billy Ray's suits (coz you know he'd rock the safety pins). On the upside, I'm glad to see her eyebrows back and her nipples hidden.

THE VERY COUNTRY: I'm addicted to Nashville - Connie Britton 4 EVA - and Taylor Swift's Julien Macdonald dress and over-cooked hair is very the evil one-hit wonder country girl who, wait for it, is secretly from the CITY that comes into town for one weekend and flirts with all the ladies' men! I love that she's sassed things up a bit, but she just doesn't look contemporary in this glorified disco ball.

THE BAD: Oh dear ... does Dior's Raf Simons just hate women? As I don't think anyone would look good in this sherbet mullet nightmare. It's like Jennifer Hudson's all of a sudden come over sweltering mid-red carpet and has just brute force ripped her skirt in half. That is not good design.

THE MEH: Doesn't she just look like she's having the best of times? I'm confused as on the one hand I like that Ke$ha's looking slightly less loca than usual (I actually like her two-tone hair) but on the other hand her makeup has her looking unusually sullen and it kind of looks like she's tucked her dress into her knickers by accident.

THE VERY BAD: A special worst-dressed shout out has to go to R Kelly for managing to look like a hustling modern-day Tyrion Lannister (but just with a bout 1-100th of the class).

THE BAD: Snap your eyes on Christina Aguilera for about 1/4th of a second and look away and you could be mistaken for thinking she looks good - but spy this dress for any longer and it's a definite fail. It's the dodgy seemingly-scissor-cut-seams that get me - quality-wise, it actually looks like a Barbie dress just blown up.

Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus are all performing, so yes, the American Music Awards is a big deal.

The red carpet is set to be equally as surprise-filled as the show, so we're bringing you who's wearing what as they arrive in our live updating gallery. Keep clicking back for more!
