The week's best & worst dressed
THE GOOD: This structural Lanvin dress looks stunning on smile-phobic Rooney Mara (although the dress was emerald green in the Lanvin look book, and I would love to have seen that colour on her). Psst ... Lorde ... rock something like this at the Grammys, you could totally make it happen.

THE BAD: Ahh ... Katy Perry frustrates me on the red carpet. She's so gorgeous, I just want to wipe some of the powder off her face; rip off her fake eyelashes - not in a painful way and loosen up that headache-inducing ponytail. This would suit either a tween like Selena Gomez or an old crusty Italian lady like Donatella (just without the splits ... please without the splits). Ergo; I'm thinking Katy's too young and too old for this Versace safety pin number. It just looks cheap. Thoughts?

THE GOOD & BAD: Noomi Rapace has a bold, daring sense of style. This sometimes pays off, as it did with this gorgeous red Elie Saab gown and cape to the left ... meanwhile, the Givenchy outfit she wore to the right (exactly as it was seen on the runway) was a bit of a fail. The skirt's fine, but that mess of a 'jumper' looks like something Blanche Devereaux would wear over a pair of jersey trousers-cum-track-pants (I just really hope the Golden Girl wouldn't go nude underneath like Rapace has).

THE BAD: Heidi Gardner is a jewellery designer that once looked like this, then this ... and then this. WHAT has happened? This is like the Wal-Mart version of Lady Gaga's brand of crazy - you know, Gags still looks like she's wearing couture, but this mess looks like it could have been pieced together during a mad dash around The Warehouse. There's so much to look at here, but ultimately what confuses me the most is how she's placed her engagement or wedding ring over her demonic pink gloves.

THE BAD: Orianthi is a bad-ass guitarist ... and the Australian is also only 28, but this gothic Big Bird get up makes her look like she should be joining Joan Rivers and Steve Tyler for sundowners where they relive their wild days before popping off to bed at 7pm.

THE BAD: Now, there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to sleeve poofiness, but I'd say a general rule of thumb is if one individual sleeve is larger in volume than your whole body, rethink. I love you Paula Abdul, you're the crazy-but-loving Aunty of the music biz, but I actually fear for your ankles with those shoes.

THE GOOD: Cate Blanchett rocks a statement necklace like no other, and this Hervé Van der Staeten gold-tiered number is just resplendent; and it works perfectly with this plum Valentino cape-bodice gown. She looks so commanding and slick ... like royalty ... in fact, let's all refer to her as Queen Cate from now on.

THE GOOD: This gown has featured on the best dressed list before - on blogger Hanneli Mustaparta - but it's so beautiful it deserves another run. I never imagined such a bold print would work on Claire Danes, but this Valentino gown looks gorgeous on her. It's also nice to see her face not contorted into a scowl/cry for a change: although I do slow-clap applaud Ms. Danes for being one of the only actresses who realistically cries on TV. Crying ain't pretty folks. Whether it's a bulging veiny forehead or a crinkly chin, none of us would look good when bawling over our is-he-or-isn't-he-a-terrorist boyf'. (Oh, and hot dang can Aaron Eckhart work a suit).
The week's best & worst dressed
THE GOOD: This is more Jennifer Garner than Jennifer Lopez, but it's refreshing to see J-Lo rock a slightly more mature style. The Bibhu Mohapatra dress works perfectly with her green eyeshadow, and I love how classic and elegant the whole thing feels. PS: Has Casper seen daylight in the past year?

THE GOOD: I love that Leslie Mann wore this to the Anchorman 2 premiere ... because, while her husband Judd Apatow was the producer of the movie, she wasn't actually in it, so her rocking up in a full-on gown would just be a bit much. This Viktor & Rolf wool-satin jumpsuit is super-fun ... and I'm lusting after that tweed coat. Check Christina Applegate giving her bunny ears ... a classic. Now, the wonderful Ms. Applegate would have been in our best dressed list if it wasn't for stage-makeup-worthy eyeliner.

THE GOOD: Oh Michelle Obama, you're amazing. The FLOTUS looks beautiful in this Marchesa gown - she is slaying that colour. She brings the glam; while all the people checking her out to the right bring the lols.
The week's best & worst dressed
THE GOOD, AGAIN: Naomie Harris knocked it out the park twice this week - her second big bang was this coral Monique Lhuillier dress, which she added a bit of edge to with ear cuffs.

THE BEST: While Kate Middleton's floppy SCRUNCHIE-tied-up ponytail left me a little flat at this event, Naomie Harris then lifted my spirits with her Alexander McQueen peplum gown. It's just-interesting-enough thanks to the metallic details, but then still so elegant. Also, I don't know if she's just downed four litres of goji berry juice or what, but girlfriend's positively radiant. I'll have what she's having.

Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Cate Blanchett, Claire Danes and more compete on the red carpet battlefield in this week's collection of best and worst dressed celebrity ladies.

This week we haven't touched upon The Hollywood Reporter's Women In Entertainment brunch - at which Kim Kardashian actually looked good - as we're all over that here.
