David Gandy says people are surprised that he's so shy.
Sitting down for a talk with long term friend, and shoe designer, Natalia Barbieri for Vogue, David chatted about the evolution of their friendship.
They first met in David's early modelling career at a party, where Natalia was bowled over by the model's striking looks.
"Honestly my first impression was obviously extremely handsome and very shy. And I didn't understand why you were so shy," Natalia remembered.
"That's what everyone thinks though, but I'm still shy to this day. People think I'm outgoing and I love the attention, when really I would just love to run and hide away from crowds. I think I've learnt to adapt to that," interjected David.
The pair soon grew close, with Natalia referring to David as her "adopted Italian family member" despite his British roots.
The two share a love of food, design and fashion. And like any close friends they have the occasional argument, but it's all over within a couple of minutes as one of them will start cracking jokes.
They collaborated on a campaign earlier this year for Natalia's shoe brand Bionda Castana, which both said they loved.
"I felt bad getting you to set by 5am," Natalia laughed. "I saw all the takes and I actually cried, it was so much better than I could have ever imagined and you just looked incredible and everyone said why isn't he Hollywood?"
Their friendship also extends to relationship advice, and Natalia has been there for some of David's most high profile relationships including those with Les Misérables star Samantha Barks and Mollie King from British pop group The Saturdays.
"Yeah you've done really well, 33 and still single," David laughed. "I don't think you give advice I think you listen."
