There's no doubt Hollywood's hottest put on one hell of a fashion show at the Golden Globes this week, but our favourite trend to emerge from the event may surprise you.

When Jennifer Lawrence rocked up to the red carpet in what can only be described as a sheet-meets-strait-jacket abomination, even her most die-hard fans had to admit that she didn't look good.

And now the internet has come to the party with a hilarious trend aptly titled #lawrencing.

Fellow actors, fans and even animals are getting on the bandwagon on both Twitter and Instagram simply by fashioning their own makeshift couture gown from duvets, sheets and in the case of one stylish kitty - a tea towel.

With her playful sense of humour and second to none ability to make fun of herself, J-Law is sure to appreciate the trend, but let's just hope she realises that only a ridiculous get-up could inspire such humour.

Because let's face it, though they may rhyme, J-Law and Dior are a match made far from fashion heaven.

Check out some of our favourite examples of #lawrencing:
