The week's best & worst dressed
THE BAD: Looking like a pre-makeup extra from the Thriller music vid in Jitrois, Heidi Klum continues her run of being terribly dressed. Note: If your shoes are about four shades off your dress, just go for a different colour.
THE BAD: Making Ireland Baldwin, 18, look bad is quite a feat, but this Keepsake 'dress', and her unfortunate hair colour, manage to do so very well. It's like a French maid's outfit has had an identity crisis and decided to rebrand itself as the swimsuit made famous in Kim Kardashian's 'belfie'.
THE BAD: I don't hate Jessie J's dress, but I do absolutely loathe those boots (imagine the tan lines) and the whole ensemble is what I would come up with if asked to dress Julia Roberts' Pretty Woman character (in the earlier scenes) but for a Pretty Woman-Girl With The Dragon Tattoo mashup.
THE BAD: This Tom Ford dress looks like some kind of spider-gimp-themed torture device: yes, Jennifer Lopez, your body is amazing and you can pull off skin tight, but let yourself breathe mi amour and go one size up. Look how her tiny body is trying to escape through those horrific sheer panels down the side. She's too straight-up beautiful to have a dress do this to her. Maybe Casper picked it out ... for himself.
THE BAD: Well at least Jennifer Lawrence hasn't been forced to wear this Dior fugliness yet. Kate Bosworth usually pulls off quirky clothes, but this dress that looks like most of the silk shirts stuck at the bottom of my washing pile that I can't be arsed ironing isn't working. Remember those tops you'd get in $2 shop-esque stores that crinkle up into tiny little flammable balls and then stretch out over your body, showing off every lump and bump? That's what this reminds me of.
THE BAD: Is Oscar de la Renta designing parachutes these days? While this may have looked nice in real life, Margot Robbie's dress photographs horrifically (and that's what it's all about on the red carpet). If it's busting and pulling at the seams on her, imagine what it would look like on us mere mortals? She also needs to have thought through her bra choice a bit better.
THE BAD: What is going on with Monica Potter?! She's so beautiful, but is looking about 20 years older than she usually does here ... and did the whole of LA burn down on her way to the party, with the only clothed person she managed to find ... and then steal clothes from ... being John Goodman in a zoot suit?
THE GOOD: Raspberry is a totally underrated colour, and Anna Kendrick looks stunning in this Reem Acra gown (and she often has a tough time on the red carpet). I love her soft half-up, half-down hair and am digging the criss-cross nature of the dress' corset.
THE BEST PAIR: Michelle Dockery and Caitlin Fitzgerald both looked super chic at a wee pre-Golden Globes luncheon. Michelle Dockery's Barbara Casasola mustard-and-black dress is like Star-Trek-meets-Gossip-Girl and I love it (mustard is SUCH an underrated colour) and my new style crush, Masters Of Sex star Caitlin Fitzgerald, owns this denim suit (I suspect we'll start to see a lot more of her soon. Remember her in It's Complicated? God I love that movie. Full on house porn).
THE GOOD: I'm not usually a fan of ruffle hems, but Camilla Belle looks beautiful in this chic-yet-shapeless Ralph Lauren gown ... the fact she's smiling goes a long way, and this is probably the most beautiful shade of blue I've ever seen.
THE GOOD: Wow, Kate Mara is making extreme shoulder pads a very good thing - that deserves some serious recognition. I adore the colour of this Michael Kors dress (and that belt) and even don't mind that the shoes and belt are mis-matched (as it doesn't look like she's trying to be too matchy-matchy).
THE GOOD: Lupita Nyong'o pretty much won the Golden Globes style-wise in that Ralph cape dress, and girlfriend was seriously on the circuit, turning up to about 20 events in 20 different outfits this week. These are my two other faves from the week. To the left we have a Proenza Schouler LBD that somehow makes chest cut-outs look wearable with some amazing Grace Jones inspired hair. Then, to the right, Lupes rocks a soft grey Altuzarra dress (and I love how all her accessories, from her earrings to nails and shoes, are in that under-used crystal ice blue).
THE BEST: How does Ashley Madekwe make a full-on Monique Lhuillier gown look so effortless? 'Oh this old thing?'. She's the master (well, mistress) of subtle accessories. Love it.
THE GOOD: Dr Jessica from House M.D (and the girl in Banshee) is married to hot army brother from Brother & Sisters?! (Who has a solidly ginger beard in real life!). I love discovering new celebrity couples ... anywho ... I also j'adorbs metallic dresses when they're done well, and Odette Annable elevates this Pamella Roland gown with her slicked-back ponytail and deep berry lip (PS: I'm getting serious Kendall Jenner doppelganger vibes).
In this week's best and worst dressed, skin-tight excuses for dresses dominate the bads, while bold colours make up the bests.
We haven't touched upon the Golden Globes or their after parties here, as we're all over those star-studded fash-fests
here and here. Oh, and the looks from the less fussy but still fun People's Choice Awards are here.
