James Packer has some serious competition when it comes to his fledgling romance with Miranda Kerr.
While neither the billionaire nor the supermodel have commented on their relationship since it first emerged they were dating last December, Fairfax Australia was reliably informed this week, by one of Kerr's closest allies, that Packer is ''one of about 10 billionaires'' making a play for the former wife of Hollywood heartthrob Orlando Bloom.
However don't expect Kerr to talk about it.
Indeed, the model has been giving strict instructions to media outlets that if they want to interview her she will not discuss Packer, her break up with Bloom or speculation that she has become estranged from her family.
This follows revelations on the television program Family Confidential that her family had not seen her for months, her parents lamenting the loss of their daughter to the world of global celebrity.
Media outlets were being offered interviews with Kerr last week to help promote her endorsements, from Royal Albert tea cups to fashion chain H&M, in a carefully orchestrated public relations offensive to get the message out that Miranda Inc was still in business after being ditched by David Jones and Victoria's Secret.
However, reporters had to agree not to pry into ''off-topic'' subjects.
As for relations between Miranda and her mother, Therese, Kerr's spokeswoman said ''they call each other all the time'', and pointed out that Therese Kerr had sent flowers to Miranda for her birthday recently, a photograph of which emerged on the model's Instagram feed with the speed of lightning.
