Last December you might've read about a 15 year old model appearing in Vogue Mexico, violating Vogue's policy to use only adult models as part of a publication-wide health initiative.

It's not an international law, just a guideline for the brand, but it was widely seen as a progressive policy given the potential for emotional and physical harm to kids thrust into the international spotlight.

Obviously, French publication Jalouse has no such concern.

Thylane Blondeau was 10 when she first appeared in Vogue Paris - before the policy was instated - and now at 12 is being touted on the cover of Jalouse as "La nouvelle Kate Moss."

Even more prominently featured is the hashtag "#BORNIN2001" - about as bold a declaration of the industry's fetishisation of youth as could be conceived.

What makes this even more unsettling, as the New York Daily News reports, is that someone claiming to be Blondeau's mother, Veronika Loubry, has posted some fairly distressed-seeming messages on Facebook.

"Hey guys im the mum of thylane something going 's wrong at the moment with thylane and bad personn in usa about pictures she make's 8 months ago for vogue [sic]," she wrote.

"Thylane doesn't know about the buzz and i want to protect her from the deapest of my heart [sic]."

Kate Moss was 15 when she started modelling. Blondeau will turn 13 on April 5.

And while it's probably real cool for Blondeau to have earned that comparison, it's worth noting that Kate Moss is hardly the paragon of healthy living.
