Hi. I'm broke. You probably are too, because it's the middle of the week and you've just paid your rent, and you had a massive weekend on the razz and sank all your coin on buying a cute guy and his mates endless rounds of drinks in the hope that he'll ask for your number - actually no, scrap that, take you home. And then you were out at an overpriced and undercooked brunch the next day with your girlfriends complaining about the lack of sweet men who buy drinks in this town. And then you got through your awful hell of Mondayitis (because it's an illness, you know) by shopping online for things you didn't know you needed. But I digress; and no this is not autobiographical. I was talking about you, not me. I'm broke because I was moving, and moving is expeeensive.
But how you got broke don't matter, even if you're always broke. What matters is that you're broke, yet you have a craving to shop, to obtain new things that will somehow change your life. You're sick of your wardrobe because it's coming into winter and all you have to wear is a nasty, tired coat from last season that looks old to you now, and all you seem to be wearing is black, black, and the occasional white sneaker to walk to work.
You crave Gok, you dream of a fairy godmother to dump a steaming pile of designer threads on your doorstep, but it ain't happening. In fact you're not even going to get a new coat this week - not unless you stretch out that credit card again, that is. Because you broke, honey. What you can do, though, if you're crafty like me, is give yourself a midweek shop spree without the crunching of plastic or the awful debt man coming a creeping. Pick a few statement pieces on the el cheapo sly, and bung them into your existing dramness for a sweet new wardrobe refresh.
So dive down the back of the couch, empty out the rubbish tray in the car or hold a bikini car wash and count those pennies. I've done some scouring of the shops for you so you don't have to, and hauled out some totally current trending pieces that are all under $50. Bling up your stinking old coat with that gold belt from Glassons - coz doncha know metallic is it right now, or smarten up your arm with a sweet new handbag.
Shall we take a look at what I found you? Come inside my hypothetical shop...
...and while I'm at it I'll look like I'm about to pop a squat in the doorway...
Wild Pair $24.90, Cotton On $49.95
Kerry Beard from Iko Iko $49, and and isn't that Karen W-who? Oh no it's $10.90 from Asos. Wow.
That now famous metallic belt from Glassons coming in at a mere $9.99, and grab the shoes while you're there for $39.99.
A bright wee spark at Country Road for $21.90, and holy-crap-I-need-this-bag $49 from Dotti.
A sweet wee Oh woops how did that get there? I mean Aztec Tee from The Warehouse for an $11 bargain
And lastly two "Are you forreal?" moments here, some yumazing wedges that only a little bit resemble these for $45 from styletread.com.au (if you haven't seen this site, check it out), and a sweet bag for $49 from Forever New.
Am I a bad influence on you?
Hope not. Not. Not.
It's so much fun when you find something cheap and totally awesome, it's like a wee bug that you want to tell everyone. Or if you're selfish keep for yourself. I'll tell you my wee secret - there are some mighty cool heeled ankle boots on sale at Number One right now for $30; I scooped up a pair, then told my girlfriends and three of them have since done so too. One of them got excited and bought four pairs.
I want to hear your recent fashion scores! Found anything amazing lately? Please spill. C'mon, I shared...
