Auckland restaurants have dominated this year’s Cuisine Good Food Awards.
Restaurant of the Year went to long-time Auckland favourite Sidart, which also picked up Best Metropolitan Restaurant, in the awards announced tonight.
Newcomers in the city were also recognised, with Masu winning Best New, and Baduzzi getting Best Specialist.
A new award, Best Wine Experience, was taken out by O’Connell Street Bistro thanks to their extensive wine list and knowledgeable staff.
Chef of the year went to Benjamin Bayly from Baduzzi and The Grove, while Restaurant Personality of the year was awarded to Mojo Horiuchi from Kazuya.
But the prizes didn’t all go to Aucklanders, with Hamilton’s Chim Choo Ree named Best Regional Restaurant and Hawke’s Bay’s Elephant Hill picked as Best Winery Restaurant.
Head judge Kerry Tyack says the standard of competition this year was “an outstanding credit to New Zealand.”
Each restaurant is judged on its environment, service, atmosphere, wine and drinks list – and, of course, its food.

Sanpellegrino Best Metropolitan Restaurant: Sidart, Auckland
KitchenAid Best Regional Restaurant: Chim Choo Ree, Hamilton
Runner-up: Riverstone Kitchen, North Otago
Electrolux Best New Restaurant: Masu, Auckland
Runner-up: Roots, Canterbury
American Express Best Specialist Restaurant: Baduzzi, Auckland
Runner-up: Ortega Fish Shack & Bar, Wellington
House of Travel Best Winery Restaurant: Elephant Hill, Hawke's Bay
Runner-up: Amisfield Bistro, Queenstown
European Foods Restaurant Personality of the Year: Mojo Horiuchi, Kazuya, Auckland
Negociants New Zealand Best Wine Experience: O'Connell Street Bistro, Auckland
