Search on for NZ's best restaurant
Food & Wine
The search for somewhere good to eat out just got easier, with the announcement of Cuisine magazine's top 50 finalists in its annual Restaurant Of The Year competition.
Cuisine editor Sarah Nicholson said determining which restaurants would make the cut was tough.
"A number of new restaurants have really raised the bar this year - we have eight first-time entrants to the list, including an impressive six in Auckland."
Previous winners include Merediths (Auckland), Riverstone Kitchen (Oamaru) and Logan Brown (Wellington).
Judges, led by head judge Kerry Tyack, have spent the past few months deciding on the finalists. The highest scoring restaurants in the top 50 will be revisited to decide the winners of the eight categories, including Cuisine Restaurant Of The Year, Villa Maria Restaurant Personality Of The Year and Vittoria Coffee Chef of the Year.
"New Zealand has some truly world-class chefs and we wanted to recognise their innovation, creativity and skill," Nicholson said. "I've no doubt that it will be a fiercely contested category."
Winners will be announced at a special event on Monday August 6. The full list of finalists can be found here.
To celebrate the contest, we have three restaurant vouchers to give away. If you'd like to enter, email us your name and contact details. Please put 'Cuisine Top 50 Restaurant' in the subject line and let us know whether you would prefer to win vouchers for Auckland, Wellington or the South Island. Entries close on Friday June 15.
