Do you think you have what it takes to blend your own wine?

Calling all wine aficionados, Selaks need your finely tuned taste buds to help inspire the creation of a new wine to match New Zealand's ultimate roast. No experience necessary, you just need to appreciate wine and want to turn your hand to some at home wine blending!

Blending plays a large part in how wines of great distinction have been made for hundreds of years. Certainly there are grapes that stand on their own as single varietals, but you might be surprised to realise that most wines are already blended, with even those labelled as a single grape only requiring 85 per cent to be the named variety.

Selaks have 30 Honorary Assistant Vintner's spaces available. Simply click here to sign up and you could win a Selaks wine blending experience.

Those selected will have the job of helping inspire the Selaks wine makers to blend the perfect red wine to match the ultimate Kiwi beef or lamb roast. The Honorary Assistant Vintner with the blend closest to what the wine makers deem the optimal blend, will win a $500 roast day pack, and bragging rights for knowing they've got a wine palate to match the best! The wine will be ready to be sold to the public in time for Selaks Roast Day on Sunday August 7.

Wine blending is all about the aroma, visual appearance and ultimately the taste of the wine. The real power of blending lies in the potential for adding complexity to the resulting wine — multiple flavours and aromas, something to stimulate every part of your mouth, a wine that has plenty of fruit at the start and something left for the finish.

Selaks head wine maker Brett Fullerton has some tips for what he will be looking for: "The wine we want to create should contain a blend of Merlot, Cabernet and Syrah. We're looking for an easy drinking approachable style red wine with broad appeal. It will perfectly match a beef or lamb roast, but should also work with white meat. Hint: The more Merlot the better, but the rest is up to you!"

The ultimate kiwi roast isn't confined to just the meat. It's a sum of its parts. The meat. The sides. The company. The traditions. The wine. Sign up today and follow the Selaks journey on Facebook as they work with Silver Fern Farms to pull together the key elements for the ultimate Kiwi roast with your help in time for Selaks Roast Day on Sunday August 7.

Entrants must be over the age of 18. Enjoy Selaks responsibly.
