Food & Wine
It's an etiquette question sure to cause a heated dinner party discussion. If a guest brings a bottle of wine to a dinner party, are you obliged to open it or should you put it away for another occasion?
Private Sydney's Andrew Hornery feels strongly about it: ''If someone brings a beautiful bottle of wine or champagne don't whisk it into the cupboard. Open it! They brought it to drink, so share it.''
However Stuart Gregor, founder of Liquid Ideas, couldn't disagree more. He plans the wine and food matching meticulously.
''If the guest brings something that's entirely inappropriate for the dinner do you open it? I say no!''
Here's a way to stop the fights if you are a wine snob and have the evening's booze planned to the last sip: ask your guests to bring chocolates or flowers. Then get on to safer topics like politics and religion.
