When you decide not to tip, just remember that you're doing so at your peril. Because even if God isn't watching, the internet is.
An indignant diner at a restaurant in St Louis, US, has found that out to their cost after they refused to pay the expected 18 per cent tip.
"I give God 10% - why do you get 18?" the diner wrote on the bill before signing it "Pastor".
The unfortunate waitress who served the pastor's party of 20 decided that such uncharitable behaviour shouldn't go unjudged and posted a picture of the bill on the social news site Reddit, with the cheeky line: "My mistake sir, I'm sure Jesus will pay for my rent and groceries."
The waitress, who goes by the Reddit name GateFlan, said the restaurant had a policy of charging an 18 per cent tip for all parties of eight or more.
However, the pastor tried to dodge the tip by asking to have the table's bill - which ran up to well over $200 - broken up.
After the bill was divided, the 18 per cent tip came to just $6.29.
"They had no problem with my service, and told me I was great," GateFlan said. "They just didn't want to pay when the time came.
"It was only compulsory because it was a table of 20. Parties up to eight at my work may tip whatever they'd like, but larger parties receive an automatic gratuity. It's in the computer, it's not something I do."
Since GateFlan posted the bill, a mob of angry Reddit users have been trying to track the pastor down. One man has already been forced to deny he's the guilty man and Gateflan has tried to calm down her fellow Redditors.
"Please stop posting personal information. You are bringing up completely random people who don't deserve a Reddit mob banging down their internet door," she wrote.
