Shock, a feeling of being bullied and an attempt to create drama are how the latest contestants to be booted off Masterchef feel about their elimination.
In an obvious attempt to spice up the show last night, two duos were split up, with the two contestants deemed to be the strongest, Jack and Cerry, forming a new team and the other two being sent home.
This meant Mel Sim, 23, and Catherine Chen, 25, were left with just their tears to support them, as their former teammates surge on in the competition.
Sim said it was a devastating to be eliminated in that way.
"It was actually quite shocking to get eliminated like that, which is the only time someone gets eliminated like that.
"It was quite surprising where we don't have time to think about it, we have to make the decision.
"I just burst into tears and I think it was hard for my sister to see me leaving and then she has to fight for herself, partnering with someone new."
The way the elimination was done made it feel like they were being bullied into a decision, Sim said.
"I wasn't angry, but I was not really happy about how they didn't give us so much time to make a decision.
"Instead they just rushed into it.
"That's the only part which makes me feel a little bit unhappy, because I felt like I got bullied in to it."
Chen said the judges or producers were probably trying to make the show more interesting.
"They probably were trying to create some drama.
"Because the whole thing was pairs, you can play around with pairing up another team member and seeing how they go.
"We know each other's strengths and weaknesses and probably they wanted to see some more drama out of us and put some flair into the game."
The mode of elimination left a sour taste in both of their mouths, but both said the food they served in their final challenge probably deserved to see them sent home.
For Sim it is onwards and upwards, as she tries to embark on a culinary career - but she could do with a little help.
"I'm trying to look for a culinary type job, I would like to work in this industry.
"I'm still currently looking and still can't find it, so can you advertise for me to find a job?
"I even told them I was in Masterchef but haven't got any replies."
Catherine was also moving into the culinary field, with her and Jack running culinary classes in Whakatane as well as cooking at the local market.
"I try to experiment with different flavours and spices now so it's brought a whole new dimension to my cooking."
