Every Wellingtonian knows the capital has some of the best coffee in the world, but now the rest of the world know it too.

CNN has published a list of eight of the world's great coffee cities.

Naturally, Melbourne, Rome, Vienna, Singapore and Seattle were also mentioned.

Reykjavik, Iceland, may be a wildcard, although apparently after the Dutch, Scandinavians have the highest coffee consumption per capita in the world. (New Zealand ranks 15th, with an average of 0.9 cups a day).

London's status as a great coffee city may surprise some, but the author attributes its caffeine-fuelled success to Aussies and Kiwis who within the last decade have opened the city's first espresso-focused coffee shops.

Memphis Belle, Flight Coffee's The Hanger, and Lamason Brew Bar were CNN's top coffee spots in Wellington.
