JURASSIC FAD: Chef Pete Evans is a fan of the paleo diet.

JURASSIC FAD: Chef Pete Evans is a fan of the paleo diet.

Be wary of celebrities and TV personalities peddling diets after the British Dietetic Association listed the Paleo and No Sugar diets as ones to avoid.

The BDA listed the five top celebrity linked diets which you would be best not to follow if your New Year's resolution is to lose weight.

Most of them are linked to some of the biggest names in entertainment.

Locally My Kitchen Rules chef Pete Evans preaches the Paleo Diet and journalist blogger Sarah Wilson swears by her No Sugar Diet.

The Paleo Diet was labelled a "Jurassic fad" by the BDA and said to be unbalanced, time consuming and socially isolating.

Wilson's No Sugar regime was a "huge contradiction" because switching to the likes of palm sugar and honey was replacing one sugar with another.

The BDA listed the Urine Therapy Diet, linked to Bear Grylls, at the top of the no-no list, followed by the Paleo Diet at No.2 and the Sugar Free Diet at No.3.

Then follows the VB6 Diet and coming in fifth is the Clay Cleanse Diet.

The BDA was founded in 1936 and, with more than 7500 members it is the nation's largest organisation of food and nutrition professionals with over 7500 members.

Urine Therapy - includes drinking one's urine for cosmetic or medical/wellbeing purposes. Some claim that the urea component of urine can have an anti-cancer effect.

Celebrity Link: Bear Grylls has reportedly drunk his own urine (for his TV show).

BDA Verdict: Literally, don't take the proverbial! Emergencies only.

Paleo Diet - only foods presumed to be available to Neanderthals in the prehistoric era are consumed and all other foods, such as dairy products, grains, sugar, legumes, 'processed' oils, salt, and others like alcohol or coffee are excluded.

Celebrity Link: Miley Cyrus and Matthew McConaughey.

BDA Verdict: Jurassic fad! An unbalanced, time consuming, socially isolating diet ... which can compromise health and your relationship with food.

Sugar Free Diet - exclude all types of sugar (and often carbohydrates too) from your diet.

Celebrity Link: Tom Hanks and Alec Baldwin.

BDA Verdict: Not a total sweetener for success! Some substitutes ... palm sugar or honey are actually just sugar in another form and a huge contradiction.

VB6 Diet - follows a vegan eating plan most of the time/before 6pm, then after 6pm, nothing is off limits.

Celebrity Link: Beyonce and Dita Van Teeese.

BDA Verdict: VB careful! ... following a vegan diet doesn't automatically translate into a healthy diet.

The Clay Cleanse Diet - A spoon of clay a day will remove toxins from the body and remove negative isotopes, helping you detox and stay in shape.

Celebrity Link: Zoe Kravitz

BDA Verdict: Clay away from this diet! The whole idea of detox is nonsense. The body is a well-developed system that has its own built-in mechanisms to detoxify and remove waste and toxins. Nuff said!
