Spaniards slam celebrity chef Jamie Oliver for 'worst paella ever'
Here's a note to all the chefs out there: If you're going to make paella, make it the Spanish way or face the wrath of angry Spaniards everywhere.
Jamie Oliver learned that the hard way after posting his version of the classic rice dish, which included chorizo - apparently a very big no-no in Spanish circles, reports The Telegraph.
"Good Spanish food doesn't get much better than paella," the British celebrity chef tweeted. "My version combines chicken thighs & chorizo."
It didn't long for the backlash to begin, with many slamming Oliver for trying to pass off what Spaniards call "rice with stuff" as their traditional dish.
@jamieoliver Thanks for destroying our most famous recipe. Please, don't use the word "paella" to describe rice with random stuff— Francesc Alonso (@Pacosimat) October 4, 2016
@jamieoliver Remove the chorizo. We don't negotiate with terrorists. First warning.— Llimona (@llim0na) October 4, 2016
Unfortunately, it's not the first time the chef has been in hot water over a traditional dish. In 2014, Oliver angered West Africans by sharing his recipe for Jollof rice - with a twist.
