Nelson restaurants Fords, Urban, Golden Bell and Babagatto are four of the 16 eateries showcasing their food during the Feast for the Senses Movable Feasts from July until August.

The mouth-watering moveable feasts are back on the menu this winter with more variety and tickets to meet demand for the culinary journey through Nelson restaurants.

Tickets for the Moveable Feasts officially go on sale today as part of the third Feast for the Senses festival.

Uniquely Nelson manager Simon Duffy said about 500 tickets were available, close to double the number of last year.

The Moveable Feasts, which form a major part of the festival, were so popular in previous years that people complained about missing out, he said.

"It's first in, first served."

Duffy said 16 restaurants were involved and the format for this winter's feasts had changed.

People still have the novelty of eating at three restaurants in one night, but have the option to choose the order of their dining experience.

The feasts are organised by themes, including Seafood and Indulge, Contemporary Kiwi and Feasty Favourites.

They will be held on Thursday nights (and one Wednesday night) from July 13 to August 17

Duffy said the feasts were a great opportunity for people to experience the best of Nelson food and hospitality.

"It's getting Nelsonians out of their homes in the winter and provides the opportunity to meet new people and sample the CBD's wide selection of restaurants."

The Feast for the Senses festival also includes Illuminate, where retailers feature light-based installations by local artists in their windows.

And there will be a Choir by Candlelight Just trying to confirm this event during the festival as well.

"It's an event that's not just about the food, it's also about sound, art, music," Duffy said.

The festival leads up to the Nelson Art Expo, which runs from August 18-20.
