"Till Death Do Us Part" is, for most people, a promise made at the altar without much visualisation of actual scenarios in which the big-D could play out.

Not so for Texan couple David and Natalie Sideserf, whose wedding cake featured a grisly scene of their severed heads on a platter alongside the vow.

The bride Natalie runs specialty cake shop Sidesurf Cake Studio in the U.S., and created the shocking cake, which featured life-like visages of the couple, complete with eerie vacant stares.

It took her 40 hours to create the heads, which were made standing up, then laid on their sides to complete the horror scene.

Squeamish guests' fears of needing a strong stomach were allayed when the cakes were cut - revealing a colourful confetti vanilla sponge (they bleed rainbow!).

Whether you find the wedding detail creepy or creative, there's one thing that's undeniable - Sideserf is a true cake artiste!
