Conquered the Double Down? Try this...
Nutritionists look away now - a burger with more calories than the notorious Double Down is set to clog the nation's arteries.
The game-changing menu item is Wendy's Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger, which contains 680 calories, 36 grams of fat and 1110 milligrams of sodium.
That compares with KFC's Original Recipe Double Down at 540 cal, 32g of fat and 1380mg of sodium, and Burger King's Whopper at 663 cals, 37g of fat and 1017mg of sodium.
The Wendy's burger's crowning glory is said to be its soft artisan pretzel bun, based on the salty-sweet German bread.
It was lauded by industry news site Burger Business as the "2013 Burger of the Year (Chain)", declaring it to be the "Year of the Bun".
The New Zealand version will be stuffed with 100 per cent locally produced ingredients, including Quality Mark prime beef, manuka smoked bacon, cheddar cheese and cheddar cheese sauce, honey Dijon mustard, spring salad mix, tomato and red onion.
Kiwis hoping to wrap their laughing gear around the monstrous creation might want to consider giving dinner a miss, in preparation for its lunchtime release tomorrow.
The Wendy's Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger will be available for a limited time across Wendy's 22 outlets nationwide.
