Goldie house sold before auction
The Upland Road, Remuera house once owned by renowned New Zealand painter Charles Frederick Goldie has been sold.
Listing agent Lesley McLellan of Ray White Remuera says the property sold before auction, by private treaty, but the price has not been revealed.
"It was sold to a terrific family that is relocating from Christchurch," she says.
The house, which was built in the 1930s, had been extensively renovated by the current owners. It had a 2014 valuation of $1.79 million.
Goldie and his wife Olive lived there during the 1940s, after Goldie had largely stopped painting due to deteriorating health. "Charles' father was a timber merchant and a mayor of Auckland and we wonder if he may have supplied the beautiful timbers throughout the house," McLellan says.
