Westside actor Will Hall will be holidaying with his wife Sarah and his seven-month-old son Freddie this summer at Mount Maunganui.

Auckland-based Hall loves the "sun, surf and sand" at the popular Bay of Plenty holiday spot.

"Nowhere else on God's green Earth will you find a beach as appealing and accessible as the strip of sand between Papamoa and the Mount," he says.

Hall's family will be accompanied by fellow actor Ben Barrington - best known for his role in The Almighty Johnsons - and his family.

And after a day at the beach, Hall says there's nothing like a good old game of Monopoly or Fifa on the PS3.

"I do like a good game. Something competitive," Hall says. "I need a bit of fun healthy competition after a long day at the beach. Always ends in a fight with one of the Jetsons [the Barrington family]."

Surf boards and games aside, the other must-have item for the new dad this summer holiday is a nappy bag.

"It's my first holiday with a baby. Nappies and all the accessories that baby needs will be the only must-have this summer," he says.

Where do you spend your summer break?
The Mount.

Who do you go with?
[Actor] Ben Barrington, his mum, Maree, his dad, Chris, his partner, Kristie, her son Ollie, their daughter Harley, my wife Sarah, our son Freddie, their dogs, Ted and Jeff. It sounds like the theme song to The Jetsons and I can assure you it's just as entertaining!

What's the best thing about being there?
Sun, surf and sand. Nowhere else on God's green Earth will you find a beach as appealing and accessible as the strip of sand between Papamoa and The Mount.

What's it like coming home again?
Awful. There's no surf in Kaukapakapa.

What are some of your fondest summer memories?
Getting the floaties on and trying to stay afloat in the pool. My sisters and I spent all day swimming.

What are your favourite summer activities?
Anything in the surf. I've started to try my hand (and core) at paddle boarding this summer with the help of the good people at Underground Surf in Orewa. So far I can report it's much harder than it looks.

What's your preferred downtime activity?
I do like a good game. Something competitive. Could be anything from cards to Monopoly to Fifa on the PS3. I need a bit of fun healthy competition after a long day at the beach. It always ends in a fight with one of the Jetsons.

Have you got an all-time favourite summer read?
This summer I have two autobiographys to read, Bryan Cranston: A Life in Parts and Girl with a Lower Back Tattoo by Amy Schumer. I like a good autobiography, my favourite being Lucky Man: A Memoir by Michael J. Fox.

Is there something you steer clear of during the holidays?
Traffic. Avoid travel on the busy days.

Is there one must-have holiday item?
Nappy bag. It's my first holiday with a baby. Nappies and all the accessories that baby needs will be the only must-have this summer. And my towel suit. I like my towel suit. It's all you need to wear all summer.
