Sideboards offer more than just good looks
Sideboards are the perfect combination of beauty and function in furniture.
That's the opinion of mid-century furniture expert Emma Eagle of Mr Bigglesworthy. Eagle says sideboards are typical of the 1950s to 70s, when longer, lower and more linear furniture became sought-after.
Although sideboards were originally intended for the dining room, they're right at home in the living room, spacious entranceways and offices.
The low profile of sideboards makes them ideal to hold a TV or sound system or top with your favourite homeware.
"We usually recommend sideboards be styled sparingly; they look best when they contain clutter, not display clutter."
Sideboards have ample storage so they are perfect for hiding things you don't want to display, especially when guests are coming over and you want a quick tidy up, says Eagle.
