There's some good news for single, dog lovers - you could meet your match over a romantic dog walk.

The dating game has been taken to a whole new level with the latest craze - speed dating crossed with dog walking.

Taking off from February 3rd to the 6th, organiser of Dog Walk Dating Andrew Dryden said the dogs act as an ice breaker.

You might like to take Buster or Tilley for a walk, even though Buster appears like he might need a bit of coaxing.

"The idea is to match people up if they look like they're interested in each other, the dogs are sort of like an easy subject matter," he said.

Eight dogs will be hanging around for a pat, and for a potential couple to take on a romantic walk and bond, he said.

But, you could even "BYOD" (bring your own dog) if you wanted to show your assets off to any potential suitors.

Held at the Basement bar, Dryden said it's not speed dating as such because you will have about 15 to 20 minutes each to walk the dogs, and chat over a drink at the bar in between.

"It'll be serendipitous and slow paced. It's more about creating the environment I guess, and getting to know each other in an easy environment," he said.

"But if we see two people who should know each other, we'll ask if they want to walk it out. Hopefully it'll be a bit less anxious than facing across a table for three minutes times 20."

The Facebook event already had more than 300 people express their interest, as well as multiple people who sent queries via email.

The idea came about after the trio of organisers - Dryden, Nic Boyce and Zoe McIntosh - had dinner together after their weekly session of No Lights, No Lycra.

"Nic said 'I think we could do a better No Lights No Lycra' and I thought 'you're crazy, that'd be too hard'."

But alas, after a meeting where Nic - who has a phobia of dogs - was absent, they came up with the Dog Walk Dating idea.

Although tickets for the events are $20, he said they would rather encourage people to just turn up on the night.

Dryden grew up with guide dogs and said he once took his dog on a blind date, but it didn't turn out too well.

"She called him stupid, so that wasn't the romance of the century."

Here's hoping Dog Walk Dating has a happier ending than Dryden's experience.
